Charmer

They called him Charmer
Tail wagging,
forked tongue out,
he’d slither around the jungle,
doing what he did best,
charming
Fangs hidden,
he’d smile at them.
And the dove
Oh the dove,
she believed him
He’d slither up the tree,
singing her praises
He loved her coat,
her beak,
her delicate nature
He loved her peace
And her voice when she cooed
The dove,
she fell with every praise
Allowed the snake into her nest
And it raised eyebrows in the jungle
And that became the tale of the jungle
The snake charmed the dove
The monkey tried stopping her from falling,
she was too far gone
The crow said to be careful,
the dove was recklessly in love
The deer shouted,
“oh dove, but where is he the rest of the days?
What about when he doesn’t notice you,
no matter how loud you sing?”
The dove was hesitant
But she didn’t fly away
One more time,
she promised
He’ll come around this time,
she repeated
Hold on awhile,
she whispered
The snake charmed the dove
She finally became a meal
Long gone,
already forgotten
You’d sometimes hear a lone song,
“beware the snake
beware the charmer”

I had to come back there again, I am charmed.
I had thoughts, can we blame the snake for what it is meant to do, charm? Is that not the only way it has known. Yet can er blame the dove for it’s intriguing stereotype? And a heart as gentle as her features, her vulnerability is her doom
    Good one Terry. Bravo!

I’ve been blaming the snake for so long, I forgot it can’t help its nature. But the dove, poor naïve dove. It can’t know better, can I?
But the doom is inevitable when they all can’t change who they are.
      Thank you Brenda
