Icarus

Icarus loved the sun
Flew near her and circled her halo
She was beautiful and yellow
Orange hues marked her flaws
But he loved her flaw
So closer he flew
Just to touch
Just for her skin’s scorch

“Icarus, beware the heat”
But Icarus was in love
With the sky
And the sun that ruled it
She was power
What did his father know
So Icarus moved closer
Ballads rippling from his throat

“Icarus, beware your wings”
But what did his father know
He felt light
Light and in love
He felt heavy
Heavy with contentment
So he stayed where he was
Letting the sun warm him
Shed every cloth off him

“Icarus, beware….”
Icarus plummeted,
Abandoned by his wings
He went South,
They went East,
Taken by the Western winds

Icarus was betrayed
But he broke staring at her halo
Her yellow streaks and orange flaws
Icarus had fallen.

I had to go back and read the story after I read this… such a lovely piece from what seemed to me a rather tragic tale.

I remember reading Icarus very long ago. It was and still is an amazing story that I wanted to turn to a reckless love story. Thank you for always reading Eli
